What should be included:
  • Game installation discs, game manual.
  • Operating System requirements: Windows XP/2000. A Mac version is not available.
Additional costs:
  • Although it's a violation of the Terms of Use, the Washington Post[2] reports that some players spend real dollars for Star Wars Galaxies credit -- $24 can buy enough credits for a nice speeder, using sites like Star Wars Galaxies Treasures. But Nick Yee[3] , a PhD student at Stanford studying "immersive virtual reality," cites that many players are "vehemently against the sale of virtual goods for real life money."
  • Strategy guides such as "Star Wars Galaxies: The Complete Guide" by Prima, can assist you with game playing and strategies. The guide can be purchased for $14.39 Walmart.com[4] .
  • Several expansion packs have been released for the game, providing more features and in-depth game playing. "Jump to Lightspeed" was released in the U.S. and Canada on October 27, 2004. This expansion is available with the base game in "The Complete Online Adventures" package. The second expansion, "Rage of the Wookies" was released in the U.S. and Canada on March 9, 2005, and is available for $25. "Trials of Obi-Wan" was released in the U.S. and Canada on November 1, 2005, and is available for $30 as a digital download from Sony.
  • Gameplay requires high-speed internet access.
Discounts:
  • The base game and the expansion packs can be purchased in a package, which is a better deal than purchasing each game individually. The most complete package is "Star Wars Galaxies: The Complete Online Adventures", which includes Star Wars Galaxies and all of the expansion packs for $30. The package also comes with a DVD of bonus features and a slide show of Star Wars Galaxies art. "The Complete Online Adventures" can be purchased for $18 from J&R Music and Computer World, or $20 from Target[5] .

  • Try out the game before buying. Download a free 14-day trial of Star Wars Galaxies from Sony.com. The download is a fully playable demo that lets you the Star Wars Galaxies virtual game world for 14 days.
