How Much Does a Nintendo GameCube Cost?

post Post

The Nintendo GameCube was originally released in the United States in 2001 and competed against the Sega Dreamcast, Microsoft's original Xbox and the PlayStation 2. The GameCube was Nintendo's first console to use optical discs, rather than game cartridges, and it succeeded the popular Nintendo 64. It was also the first console to allow online gameplay. The GameCube was discontinued in 2006 with the release of the Wii. Nintendo's current home game console is the Wii U.

Typical costs:

  • Nintendo GameCube consoles are available through used video game outlets, online retro gaming store and through online auctions. The cost of the console can be as low as $20 for a reconditioned system with a single controller or as much as $700 for a system in the original packaging, still factory sealed.
  • Used video game retailers, such as GameStop[1] , sell used Nintendo GameCube consoles for about $20, and include the console and a single controller. Additional controllers are sold for about $15 each.
  • Nintendo GameCube consoles sold through online auction sites generally cost slightly more than those sold in video game shops, but often include additional controllers, memory cards, or games. GameCube consoles sold through online auctions typically sell for $30-$60, depending on condition and the contents of the bundle.
  • Retro video game retailers such as DK Oldies[2] and JJ Games[3] typically sell GameCube consoles for $30-$60. The models are refurbished and come with a limited-time guarantee.
  • Nintendo GameCube consoles are available new with factory-sealed packaging through some retailers such as Amazon, but often sell for hundreds of dollars based on the collectability of the unit. For example, Amazon[4] offers the GameCube new for about $320, but used models are available for $20 and up. Models that were produced in fewer quantities, such as the Pokémon edition, can sell for even higher.
What should be included:
  • Nintendo GameCube consoles were originally packaged with the console, a power cord, a TV-hook-up cable and at least one game controller. Some consoles were bundled with additional games and accessories, such as memory cards.
Additional costs:
  • Some retail outlets, such as Walmart[5] , continue to sell GameCube games and accessories new. Typically, GameCube games and accessories cost $5-$15 new.
  • GameCube controllers continue to be sold new because of the compatibility with the Wii console, and typically cost $7-$15. Some are sold in sets of two, typically for less than $20.
Discounts:
  • Used game stores such as GameStop allow customers to trade in unwanted games for store credit on future purchases or cash. Typically, the store credit choice nets a higher return on trade-ins than the cash option.
