With the advent of 3-D technology into the living room with 3-D television viewing, there is also a smaller push in the realm of 3-D computer gaming. Currently, only the graphics company Nvidia[1] offers the ability to play 3-D games on a computer.
Typical costs:
In order to play a 3-D computer game, one requires the $150 Nvidia 3-D Vision Kit[2] , a 3-D computer monitor and a compatible graphics card and computer running Microsoft Windows Vista or Windows 7 operating system. If a game has been tagged as "Nvidia 3-D Vision Ready," that means Nvidia has worked closely with the game developer to optimize the game for their 3-D Vision technology.
The latest released games with this badge like Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X 2 can cost up to $55. Older games like Resident Evil 5[3] can cost about $30.
Other PC video games[4] that do not have the "Nvidia 3-D Vision Ready" badge also can cost $20-$60 depending on how long the game has been on the market.
The Nvidia 3-D Vision Kit can convert several hundred existing games into 3-D gameplay. The company also keeps a list of 3-Dv games[5] and categorizes how well they run in 3-D.
Nvidia says that their 3-D Vision technology can transform already existing PC games into 3-D with their kit as long as the necessary requirements are fulfilled. Specific computer system requirements can be found at Nvidia's own list of necessary features.
All PC video games include a DVD game disc and user manual.
Additional costs:
The Nvidia 3-D Vision Kit, necessary for 3-D game play on PCs, costs $150.
