The Canon EOS Rebel T4i is an entry-level to mid-range digital SLR camera. While larger than most point-and-shoot or compact system cameras, it is relatively small and lightweight for a digital SLR camera. The T4i records still images in JPEG, RAW or RAW+JPEG formats and captures 1080p-resolution full-HD video with a built-in stereo microphone.

The T4i has a continuous shooting speed of up to five frames per second; a touch-screen LCD screen that folds out and swivels for more versatile viewing; and a built-in, pop-up flash in addition to a hot shoe (outlet) for an optional external flash ($155-$225 or more).

What People Are Saying:

A top-seller at many retailers, the Canon EOS Rebel T4i is on lists of the best DSLRs at CNET, PCMag.com, CameraLabs.com and DigitalCameraInfo.com. Critics typically like the T4i for its speed and image quality for both photos and videos, particularly when the body is paired with the 18-135mm kit lens. Consumer Reports recommends the T4i, calling it a versatile entry-level SLR that is smaller and lighter than higher-end SLRs, with very good image quality and performance.
  • CNET: "A fine camera, the Canon EOS Rebel T4i's more expensive 18-135mm STM kit (or body with another STM lens) is the only version that merits an unqualified recommendation. You can probably find better alternatives if you just want a sub-$1,000 dSLR for still photography."
  • PCMag.com: "The Canon EOS Rebel T4i delivers top speed along with excellent image quality, and supports smooth video autofocus when paired with the right lens. It's a laudable performer, but doesn't quite edge out the Nikon D5100 as our top pick for under-$1,000 D-SLR."
  • DigitalCameraInfo.com: "(T)he new EOS Rebel T4i represents an appealing middle ground between the bargain basement prices and minimal feature sets of the low-end Rebels and the advanced features of the enthusiast-targeted EOS 7D. The T4i improves on its predecessor with a capacitive touchscreen, a new 'hybrid autofocus system,' and a new silent kit lens."
