The Gateway LT4010U is a lightweight and portable netbook that runs on a compressed version of Windows 7. Gateway is now part of Acer, another popular maker of netbooks and laptops.

It has Wi-Fi connectivity and is meant for on-the-go basic computing needs such as answering emails and keeping up with social networks. It has one-touch integration with Facebook, Flickr, and YouTube. It also has several connectivity options, including three USB ports, an HDMI port and a VGA port.

The Gateway LT4010U runs Windows 7 Starter, a smaller, more-compact version of Windows 7. With a basic version of Microsoft Office installed (Word and Excel only), the model can be good for children.

CostHelper Bottom Line: Advertised prices for the Gateway LT4010U do not vary more from the $228 base MSRP. Netbooks are increasingly difficult to find as many customers find similar function and greater portability in tablets.

What People Are Saying:

Consumer Reports did not test the Gateway LT4010U netbook, but did name its immediate predecessor and similarly built LT4009U a "best buy" in 2012. (The only difference between the two models was the size of the battery.) Gateway's current model was a best-selling item on Amazon in 2012 and customers who purchased it offered positive feedback, noting the battery life could exceed what was advertised and that it worked well as a portable laptop.
