The Canon EOS 60D is a mid-range digital SLR camera that should appeal to SLR beginners who want a camera they can grow into and photography enthusiasts who want a bit more than a basic SLR model without the weight, bulk and cost of a professional-grade camera.

The 60D captures still images in JPG, RAW and RAW+JPEG formats and records 1080p full-HD video. This camera has both an optical viewfinder and a high-resolution 3" LCD screen that flips out and angles for flexible viewing, which can be particularly helpful while recording video.

What People Are Saying:

The Canon EOS 60D is on a list of best mid-range DSLRs at CameraLabs.com. Critics typically describe the 60D as a fast mid-range DSLR camera that takes excellent images and has lots of desirable features, although they do mention a few irritating controls. Consumer reports recommends the 60D, saying it is a bit heavier and pricier than similar models, but is one of the few with excellent low-light and flash image quality. User reviews are primarily positive, with most praising this camera for its image and video quality, variety of manual controls and performance, although a few mention some controls are not intuitive; the few major complaints center on manufacturing defects.
  • CNET: "The Canon EOS 60D is in many ways a great camera: fast, feature-packed, and with excellent photo and video quality. Some annoying aspects of its control layout dim its shine a little, however, so try before you buy."
  • Imaging-Resource.com: "(T)he Canon 60D has a few more consumer-friendly features to go along with its consumer-friendly design. In addition to the Scene modes that have always accompanied this level of SLR, Canon now includes many image and video editing features right in the camera."
  • PhotographyBlog.com: "(T)he EOS 60D is a joy to use, that irksome four-way controller aside, with one of the best movie modes on any EOS SLR."
